The Oakland Athletics (often abbreviated to A's) are an American professional baseball team based in Oakland, California. The Athletics compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West division. The club plays its home games at the OaklandâAlameda County Coliseum. The club has won nine World Series championships, the third most of all current Major League Baseball teams. The Athletics' 2017 season will be the team's 50th season in Oakland.
The OaklandâAlameda County Coliseum, often referred to as the Oakland Coliseum, is a multi-purpose stadium in Oakland, California, United States, which is home to both the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). It opened in 1966 and is the only remaining stadium in the United States that is shared by professional football and baseball teams. The Coliseum was also home to some games of the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer in 2008â2009 and hosted games at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The OaklandâAlameda County Coliseum complex consists of the stadium and the neighboring Oracle Arena.
